There is a need to increase the number of women in technology in the IT career path pipeline. 

Information Technology (IT) continues to affect every aspect of our lives and so it requires a growing population of workers and specialists in IT career paths.  As with any industry that requires a significant number of employees, the IT field needs to maintain a constant stream of potential workers in the IT career path pipeline.

However, while the IT field is growing quickly, it continues to face labor shortages. This is due to the lack a sufficient people available in the IT career path talent pool.  These talent gaps are further increased by the underrepresentation of women in IT career paths.

Database Administrators (DBAs) are responsible for managing database systems that store and organize organizational data. As a DBA, you would typically work with other DBAs and application teams to understand how to best store and transform data.

IT Career #4: IT Support/Helpdesk

If you have ever called the helpdesk to troubleshoot any computer problems, then you have most likely interacted with IT Support/Helpdesk personnel. This is a great IT career path because it allows you to start at a lower level with a low barrier to entry.

As an IT Support /Helpdesk personnel, you would work with employees and customers to resolve their IT related problems. This job was not considered a remote job before. However, the 2020 pandemic has proven that this job can be done remotely.

This job is usually in tiers based on the level of complexity of the problem. The lower-level tiers typically handle less complicated issues due to their lower level of experience. While the higher-level tiers handle more complicated issues.

Salary: The median annual salary for software developers is $54,760.

This means you can start a job in this IT career path after taking a few courses. Then you can advance your career as you learn more skills. IT Career #5: IT Project Manager

If you have great organizational skills, you can work as a remote project manager (both IT and non-IT).  I have done this for years very effectively.

Project Managers keep track of the progress of IT projects within an organization.  Their job is to make sure projects are completed on time and within budget.

IT auditors are responsible for checking to see if the security controls in IT systems are effective. 

Many people that I know in IT Audit have no IT background and are very successful in this field.  IT Audit is related to regulatory compliance. Since regulatory compliance is a requirement for many organizations, jobs in this field are not going anywhere anytime soon.

Data scientists are responsible for using tools to analyze and interpret large amounts of data. This is an in-demand job that is not going anywhere as long as data is being collected by organizations.

As a data scientist, you should expect to work with teams of business and technology professionals to solve business problems.

As a network administrator, you would physically interact with computer systems to make sure they are set up properly. A lot of computer networking is now managed on the cloud, so in some instances you may be able to work remotely.

As you gain technical skills in your chosen IT career path, you can choose to become a content creator. As an IT Education content creator/instructor you can share information on what you know in any IT field. This can be shared with an audience that will benefit from that information.

    I love this list of IT careers for women. I haven’t seen one like this anywhere. A data scientist or cybersecurity analyst would be awesome jobs to have. However, I am so tech challenged that I would get fired the first day of the job.
